Mayer and PRS arrived at both shapes by measuring vintage necks and playing test guitars on stage. The rosewood fretboard carries small bird inlays, a 7.25\" vintage radius, and 22 PRS Medium frets (.085\" x .045\"). The scale is 25.5\", and the bone nut is 1 21\/32\" wide. PRS flipped its signature headstock shape for the Silver Sky. That suits Mayer’s playing and keeps string length behind the nut even, which helps tuning stay put. The vintage-style closed-back tuners lock. The PRS steel tremolo uses Gen III knife-edge screws and is set flush against the body for down-only bends. With more of the bridge touching the body, the guitar rings louder unplugged, and that improves the signal-to-noise ratio of the single coils.
