Instead of wood, his instruments were molded from a carbon and glass fiber composite. Demand grew quickly, and Steinberger Sound moved to a larger facility in Newburgh, New York in 1983. The TransTrem arrived in 1984 as the first tremolo that keeps every string's pitch relationship intact through its full travel, so chords stay in tune as you bend. With no headstock, tuning happens at the bridge through Steinberger fine tuners built into the TransTrem transposing tremolo.
