M2M stands for Made 2 Measure, Gibson Custom’s program for building guitars to dealer-chosen specs outside the regular catalog. The 1959 Les Paul Standard it recreates is one of the most valuable electric guitars ever made, and original ‘59 bursts trade at prices few players can reach. This one has a flame maple top over a mahogany body. The nitrocellulose lacquer finish was aged by the Murphy Lab, Gibson Custom’s aging shop named for Tom Murphy, who pioneered guitar aging. The Light Aged treatment adds subtle finish checking and gentle wear, so the guitar looks like a well-kept original. The body is bound in 1-ply Royalite. The Indian rosewood fretboard has 1-ply Royalite binding, cellulose nitrate trapezoid inlays, a 12\" radius, and 22 authentic medium-jumbo frets on a 24.75\" scale. The nylon nut is 1 11\/16\" wide, a period-correct detail. The headstock carries a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and a “Les Paul Model” silkscreen. An ABR-1 bridge and a lightweight aluminum stopbar tailpiece anchor the strings, and Kluson single-line, single-ring tuners keep it in tune. The nickel hardware is aged by the Murphy Lab to match the finish.
