The top is 4A flame maple burl, its swirling, chaotic figure caught under a honey burst in nitrocellulose lacquer with a relic'd finish, laid over a two-piece off-center ash body sorted for weight and finished in a brown grainfill that lets the ash pore structure show through on the back and sides. Burl of this grade is unpredictable by nature, so no two Artisan basses look alike — this is a one-of-a-kind instrument, and at 8.8 lbs. it's well-balanced for a burl-topped J-Bass.
