Condition: Excellent vintage condition, 1988 model. Guitar shows some light wear consistant with age and use. Some light scratches in the finish on the body, pickup covers. Handful of tiny dings on the body. Tremolo shows some wear on the edge through the black finish. Comes with original Steinberger gigbag.

The Steinberger story starts with Ned Steinberger, a furniture designer who built his first headless bass in Brooklyn in 1979. Instead of wood, his instruments were molded from a carbon and glass fiber composite. Demand grew quickly, and Steinberger Sound moved to a larger facility in Newburgh, New York in 1983. The TransTrem arrived in 1984 as the first tremolo that keeps every string's pitch relationship intact through its full travel, so chords stay in tune as you bend. The GL4T joined the lineup in 1986.

This 1988 Steinberger GL4T in White is in excellent vintage condition (Serial #4778), showing light wear consistent with its age. There are light scratches in the finish on the body and pickup covers, a handful of tiny dings on the body, and some wear through the black finish on the edge of the tremolo. The body is molded carbon fiber and fiberglass under a gloss white finish, and the whole guitar weighs just 6.88 lb.

The neck is molded carbon fiber with a C carve (.830" at the 1st fret, .940" at the 12th), built as one piece with the body for a stiff, stable feel from end to end. It has an ebony fretboard with white dot inlays, a 12" radius, and 24 jumbo frets on a 25.5" scale. Nut width is 1.650", with a zero fret in place of a traditional nut. With no headstock, tuning happens at the bridge through Steinberger fine tuners built into the TransTrem transposing tremolo. All hardware is finished in black.

Three EMG pickups handle the sound, with an EMG humbucker in the bridge position. Controls are volume and tone, plus an on/off button for each pickup, so you can dial in combinations a standard selector switch can't reach.
