This Used 2020 Whitfill S Style in Black Relic is a hand-built instrument from Robbie Whitfill's Texas shop. The alder body wears black nitrocellulose lacquer with relic work that's one of the reasons Whitfill guitars have the following they do — checked, worn, and aged in a way that reads as decades of honest playing rather than a factory process, with the wear falling exactly where a real player's arm, forearm, and pick hand would put it. At 7.1 lbs. it's a comfortable weight for long sets, and a 3-ply white pickguard against the black finish keeps the classic look intact. This 2020 example is in near-mint condition with little to no wear beyond the original relic treatment, and it comes with a hardshell case.

The neck is maple in a C carve (.875" at the 1st fret, .985" at the 12th fret) finished in satin nitro that feels broken-in from the first note, the satin finish means no sticky palm on a hot stage. The rosewood fretboard carries black dot inlays over a 10" radius, a touch flatter than vintage spec for easier bending, with 21 medium frets, a 25.5" scale, and a 1.655" bone nut. The natural headstock is a signature Whitfill touch that sets these apart visually from the standard black-headstock formula. A 6-screw Kluson tremolo with bent saddles handles vibrato duties with vintage feel and correct string spacing, paired with vintage-style tuners in relic'd nickel hardware.

The pickups are a matched set of three from Onamac Windery, a boutique winder whose work turns up in high-end builds precisely because it captures vintage single-coil character — glassy top-end sparkle, scooped mids, and the bell-like clarity that defines the S-style voice — with the consistency and clarity that hand-winding delivers. Run through a volume, two tones, and a 5-way blade selector, the full range is there: quacky in-between positions, warm and round on the neck, cutting and articulate at the bridge. Whether you're a session or touring player who wants a boutique instrument that feels like a well-loved vintage piece without vintage-market pricing or fragility, a gigging guitarist who needs one S-style that covers everything, or a collector who follows small-shop builders, this Whitfill is a serious piece. This Whitfill S Style Black Relic (Serial #2-5-20) includes a hardshell case. Order today from Brian's Guitars.
