“It’s been a dream of mine for years to design a guitar that includes some of my favorite vintage specifications but with a modern spirit and aesthetic. After two years of study and refinement, the Silver Sky is my vision of what a reboot of the electric guitar should look and feel like.”
– John Mayer

The PRS Silver Sky in Mojave Brown (Serial #0436260) is the John Mayer signature model, the result of 2 years of collaboration between Mayer and Paul Reed Smith. They took their favorite elements of 1963 and 1964 single-coil guitars and refined them with a modern approach. It feels broken-in and familiar, with the consistency of a brand-new instrument. The alder body comes in Mojave Brown under a satin nitro finish. A multi-ply white pickguard and nickel hardware complete the look. This one weighs 7.06 lb.

The maple neck bolts on and uses the 635JM-R carve (55/64" at the 1/2 fret, 63/64" at the 12 1/2 fret). This is the rosewood-board version of the Silver Sky neck. Its shoulders are slightly more rounded than the original maple-board carve, so it sits fuller in your hand. Mayer and PRS arrived at both shapes by measuring vintage necks and playing test guitars on stage. The rosewood fretboard carries small bird inlays, a 7.25" vintage radius, and 22 PRS Medium frets (.085" x .045"). The scale is 25.5", and the bone nut is 1 21/32" wide. PRS flipped its signature headstock shape for the Silver Sky. That suits Mayer’s playing and keeps string length behind the nut even, which helps tuning stay put. The vintage-style closed-back tuners lock. The PRS steel tremolo uses Gen III knife-edge screws and is set flush against the body for down-only bends. With more of the bridge touching the body, the guitar rings louder unplugged, and that improves the signal-to-noise ratio of the single coils. The double-action truss rod adjusts from the headstock face.

Three PRS 635JM single coils deliver a round, full voice with highs that stay musical instead of harsh. The layout is 1 volume, 2 tones, and a 5-way blade switch, covering warm neck cleans, quacky in-between sounds, and a bridge position with real snap. Retooled knobs and a curved, molded metal jack plate finish it off. Whether you’re a blues player after vintage single-coil tone, a worship or session guitarist who needs clear, articulate cleans, or a Mayer fan who wants the official signature guitar, the Silver Sky covers it. This Silver Sky (Serial #0436260) comes with a PRS Premium Gig Bag. Order today from Brian’s Guitars, your authorized PRS dealer.
