Death by Audio Amp Crash
The Death by Audio Amp Crash puts a real amplifier, a real speaker, and a real microphone inside a single stompbox. A 3-watt amp drives an internal 2" speaker. An internal microphone captures that speaker moving air. Nothing is modeled and nothing is simulated — the harmonics, compression, feedback, and grit happen physically, inside the enclosure, the way they happen in a room with a cranked combo. Blend the direct amp signal against the mic'd signal and the range runs from touch-sensitive overdrive to crushing fuzz, blooming harmonics, natural feedback, and textures that occasionally fight back.
The controls keep that interaction under your thumb. DI OUT sets how much of the direct amplifier signal reaches the output. MIC OUT sets how much of the internal microphone signal goes with it, and the balance between those two is where most of the pedal's range lives. GAIN sweeps the internal amp from cooking to OVERLOAD, where it turns gnarly and starts oscillating. TONE shapes the amp EQ from deep and bass-heavy to bright and focused. A MIC GATE flip switch brings in a noise gate for the internal mic, triggered by the instrument input. The POWER footswitch handles buffered-bypass switching and turns the internal speaker on and off.
The concept came out of a collaboration: David Rainger of Rainger FX brought Death by Audio the idea of putting a microphone inside a pedal so room sound could mix into the guitar signal, and adding an internal speaker turned it into a mic'd amp in a box. A full multi-effects engine grew around it. The SFX section offers digital Reverb from small room to cavernous, tape-style Echo, and a three-dimensional Chorus that spans metallic flanging to lush modulation. DEPTH controls reverb blend, echo blend and feedback, or chorus depth, and bypasses the SFX entirely when turned fully down. TIME sets reverb decay, echo delay time, or chorus speed. Whether you're a recording guitarist after a mic'd amp sound at apartment volume, a noise or shoegaze player chasing feedback and controlled chaos, or a builder of strange pedalboards who wants something no modeler can fake, Amp Crash doubles as a portable practice amp and a compact recording tool.
