Gibson Custom 1957 Les Paul Custom Reissue Korina TV Magenta
Gibson Custom 1957 Les Paul Custom Reissue Korina TV Magenta
Serial Number: 761177
Weight: 9.62 lbs.
The Gibson Custom 1957 Les Paul Custom Reissue in Korina TV Magenta (Serial #761177) takes the Les Paul Custom in a direction the originals never went. The 1957 Les Paul Custom earned the “Black Beauty” nickname with its black finish and mahogany body. This reissue swaps the mahogany for Korina, the wood Gibson made famous on its 1958 Flying V and Explorer, and Gibson uses it sparingly. The Korina body is finished in TV Magenta gloss nitrocellulose with a VOS (Vintage Original Spec) treatment, which softens the gloss to a vintage patina. Multi-ply binding on the top and back and a black pickguard keep the Custom look intact. It weighs 9.62 lb.
The neck is Korina as well, with a 1950s Chunky D carve (.915" at the 1st fret, 1.020" at the 12th fret). It’s a big, full neck for players who like plenty of wood in their hand. A long-tenon set-neck joint extends deeper into the body for more contact, sustain, and stability. The ebony fretboard has mother of pearl block inlays, 1-ply white binding, a 12" radius, and 22 medium jumbo frets. Other specs include a 24.75" scale and a 1 11/16" nylon nut. The gloss black headstock carries the Custom’s mother of pearl split diamond and Gibson logo inlays. Gold hardware runs throughout, with an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, a stopbar tailpiece, and Kluson Waffleback tuners with single-ring keystone buttons.
The pickups are a pair of uncovered Gibson Custombuckers with Alnico III magnets and double white bobbins. Alnico III gives a sweet, open voice with room to breathe, close to the late-’50s PAF sound these pickups are built to capture. The controls are the classic 2 volumes, 2 tones, and a 3-way toggle. Use the neck pickup for round, vocal leads, the bridge for clear, cutting rhythm, and both together for a balanced middle tone. It cleans up well from the volume knobs and opens into rich overdrive when pushed. Whether you’re a player who wants a big-necked Les Paul Custom, a classic rock guitarist chasing ’50s Gibson tone, or a collector looking for a Korina Les Paul in an unusual finish, this one delivers. This one (Serial #761177) ships with a Lifton Reissue Hardshell Case. Order today from Brian’s Guitars, your authorized Gibson dealer.
