Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue Solar Octane
Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue Solar Octane
Serial Number: 86717
Weight: 9.54 lbs.
The Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue in Solar Octane (Serial #86717) brings back the year Gibson turned the Les Paul into the Standard players know today. 1958 marked the shift from the Goldtop to the Standard, and those guitars went on to become some of the most valuable electric guitars ever made. This reissue pairs that period-correct build with a striking Solar Octane finish. The body is mahogany with a maple top and cream binding, sprayed in gloss nitrocellulose lacquer. A 1-ply black pickguard adds contrast. It weighs 9.54 lb., with the heft and sustain of a classic Les Paul.
The neck is where a ‘58 stands apart. This one has a 1950’s Chunky D carve (.900" at the 1st fret, 1.00" at the 12th fret), one of the biggest neck profiles Gibson Custom offers. It’s ideal for players who want a solid handful of mahogany and a thumb-over grip. The gloss nitro neck is set into the body for tight coupling and long sustain. The rosewood fretboard has cream binding, cellulose trapezoid inlays, a 12" radius, and 22 medium jumbo frets on a 24.75" scale. The nut is nylon, 1 11/16" wide. The headstock carries an inlaid logo and Les Paul Model silkscreen. Grover Keystone tuners, an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, and a stopbar tailpiece make up the chrome hardware.
A matched pair of unpotted Custombuckers with Alnico III magnets handles the sound. Alnico III keeps the output smooth and the highs sweet, and the unpotted construction gives the pickups a lively, dynamic response that follows your pick attack. The layout is 2 volumes, 2 tones, and a 3-way toggle. The bridge pickup bites for riffs and rhythm. The neck pickup is thick and warm for leads. Both together give a hollow, open tone for cleaner parts. Dig in and it growls; ease off and it cleans up. Whether you’re a player who likes a big neck, a blues or classic rock guitarist chasing late-’50s Les Paul tone, or a collector who wants a ‘58 reissue in an unusual finish, this one stands out. This one (Serial #86717) ships with a Gibson Custom Lifton Hardshell Case. Order today from Brian’s Guitars, your authorized Gibson dealer.
