Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue Cobalt Blue White Stripes
Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue Cobalt Blue White Stripes
Serial Number: 962011
Weight: 8.0 lbs.
The Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue in Cobalt Blue with White Stripes (Serial #962011) puts a bold custom color on Gibson Custom’s recreation of the most famous Les Paul year. Late-’50s Standards set the template for the rock guitar, and originals now trade at collector prices. Under the finish, this reissue follows the ‘59 recipe closely. A mahogany body carries an AAA figured maple top, bound in cream. The Cobalt Blue and white stripes are sprayed in thin gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, which lets the guitar resonate and age naturally. At 8.0 lb., it’s a comfortable weight for a Les Paul.
The mahogany neck uses the Carmelita carve (.860" at the 1st fret, .975" at the 12th fret). It’s a substantial, rounded shape that fills the hand, in keeping with the chunkier necks of the era. Gloss nitro covers the neck as well. A set-neck joint gives the guitar its sustain and solid, woody resonance. The cream-bound rosewood fretboard has cellulose trapezoid inlays, a 12" radius, and 22 medium jumbo frets on a 24.75" scale. The nut is nylon, as on the originals, at 1 11/16" wide. Up top, the gloss black headstock has an inlaid logo and gold holly silkscreen, with Kluson Reissue single-ring, single-line tuners. An ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece complete the chrome hardware.
Two unpotted Custombucker pickups with Alnico III magnets supply the voice. The lower magnetic pull of Alnico III gives a sweeter top end and more headroom, and the unpotted build makes each pickup react to your touch the way vintage PAFs do. With 2 volumes, 2 tones, and a 3-way toggle, you get bright, cutting bridge tones, warm neck leads, and the classic in-between sound with both pickups on. Push an amp hard for creamy overdrive, or back off the volume and it cleans up fast. Whether you’re a blues-rock player after the original Les Paul sound, a classic rock guitarist who wants vintage feel in a new instrument, or a collector adding a ‘59 reissue to a Gibson Custom collection, this guitar fits. This one (Serial #962011) ships with a Gibson Custom Lifton Hardshell Case. Order today from Brian’s Guitars, your authorized Gibson dealer.
