Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue Cobra Cherry Burst
Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue Cobra Cherry Burst
Serial Number: 961935
Weight: 8.66 lbs.
The Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Reissue in Cobra Cherry Gloss (Serial #961935) recreates the late-’50s Les Paul Standard, the guitar collectors and players have chased for decades. Gibson Custom builds it to period-correct specs, down to the hardware and pickups. An AAA figured maple top sits over a mahogany body, with cream binding around the edge. The Cobra Cherry finish is sprayed in gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, which lets the figure show through and lets the wood breathe as it ages. It weighs 8.66 lb.
The mahogany neck has a Carmelita carve (.860" at the 1st fret, .975" at the 12th fret), a full, rounded profile that gives your thumb something to hold onto. It’s finished in gloss nitro to match the body. The set-neck joint couples neck and body tightly for strong resonance and sustain. The rosewood fretboard has cellulose trapezoid inlays, cream binding, a 12" radius, and 22 medium jumbo frets. Other specs include a 24.75" scale and a 1 11/16" nylon nut, a vintage-correct material. The gloss black headstock carries an inlaid logo and gold holly silkscreen. An ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece anchor the strings, and Kluson Reissue single-ring, single-line tuners keep the look true to ‘59. The hardware is chrome.
The pickups are a pair of unpotted Custombuckers with Alnico III magnets. Alnico III is a softer magnet, so the pickups sound open and clear rather than compressed. Leaving them unpotted adds an airy, touch-sensitive response, the same lively feel players associate with original PAF-era Les Pauls. Controls are 2 volumes, 2 tones, and a 3-way toggle, so you can shape each pickup on its own and blend them in the middle position. Turn up for thick, singing lead tones. Roll back the volume for chiming, edge-of-breakup cleans. Whether you’re a blues player chasing the classic Les Paul voice, a rock guitarist who wants vintage response with modern build quality, or a collector building a Gibson Custom historic collection, the 1959 Les Paul delivers. This one (Serial #961935) ships with a Gibson Custom Lifton Hardshell Case. Order today from Brian’s Guitars, your authorized Gibson dealer.
