Gibson Custom 1957 Les Paul Junior Reissue Humbucker Quilt Bordeaux Purple
Gibson Custom 1957 Les Paul Junior Reissue Humbucker Quilt Bordeaux Purple
Serial Number: 761134
Weight: 7.54 lbs.
The Gibson Custom 1957 Les Paul Junior Reissue Humbucker in Bordeaux Purple (Serial #761134) takes Gibson’s most stripped-down rock machine and changes two big things. The original 1957 Les Paul Junior was a plain mahogany slab with a single P-90. This Gibson Custom Shop reissue adds a 3A quilt maple top over the mahogany body. Instead of the P-90 the original shipped with, it’s loaded with a Custombucker humbucker. Quilt is one of the scarcer maple figures, since only a small share of trees grow it, and pairing it with a Junior is an uncommon spec. The Bordeaux Purple finish is gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, deep enough to show off the quilt’s depth without burying it. This one weighs 7.54 lb.
The mahogany neck has a 1950s Chunky D carve (.900" at the 1st fret, 1.00" at the 12th fret). It’s a full, rounded neck that gives your hand something to hold onto. The rosewood fretboard has cream binding, cellulose dot inlays, a 12" radius, and 22 medium jumbo frets. Other specs include a 24.75" scale and a 1 11/16" nylon nut. The set-neck joint adds sustain and a warm, woody attack. The Historic Wraparound Tailpiece serves as bridge and tailpiece in one, so the strings take a short, direct path to the body. Kluson Deluxe tuners and nickel hardware keep the look vintage. The headstock has a holly veneer with an inlaid Gibson logo, and the neck is finished in gloss nitro.
The Custombucker is Gibson Custom Shop’s vintage-voiced humbucker. It uses an Alnico III magnet and is left unpotted for an open, touch-sensitive response in the PAF tradition. Alnico III keeps the output moderate and the top end sweet, so the pickup cleans up well when you back off the volume. Turn it up and you get thick, singing humbucker drive with more depth than a P-90. The controls are a single volume and tone, the same no-nonsense Junior layout. Whether you’re a rock player who wants one pickup and a loud amp, a blues player who works the volume knob, or a collector of Gibson Custom Shop historic reissues, this Junior delivers. This one (Serial #761134) ships with a Gibson Custom Hardshell Case. Order today from Brian’s Guitars, your authorized Gibson dealer.
