This PRS Private Stock McCarty Trem in Buckeye Burl Smokeburst (Serial #433318, Private Stock #12542) is a bespoke build spec’d by the Brian’s Guitars team. We hand-selected the wood set for this guitar and chose every spec, from the korina body and neck to the paua-outlined burl bird inlays. PRS’s Private Stock shop then built it to that spec. The top is buckeye burl. Burls are irregular growths on the trunk of a tree, and buckeye burls are small and unpredictable. Pieces big enough and stable enough to cover a guitar top are hard to source, which is why buckeye burl rarely shows up outside custom builds. The Smokeburst finish darkens toward the edges and opens up across the center. It’s sprayed in satin nitro, so the swirling burl figure stays visible without a gloss sheen over it.
Both the body and neck are korina. Korina is the trade name for white limba, the African hardwood behind Gibson’s original 1958 Flying V and Explorer, two of the most sought-after vintage electrics. It has a warm, resonant voice with clear mids and a bit more openness than mahogany. With korina throughout, this McCarty weighs 7.34 lb. The neck is carved to PRS’s Pattern profile (7/8" at the 1st fret, 61/64" at the 12th), a full, rounded shape, and finished in satin nitro. The ebony fretboard has buckeye burl bird inlays outlined in paua, a 10" radius, and 22 PRS frets on a 25" scale. The PRS nut is 1 11/16" wide. The headstock is faced in buckeye burl to match the top, with an ebony Private Stock eagle and a buckeye burl truss rod cover.
A PRS Gen III tremolo handles everything from light vibrato to deeper bends. PRS Phase III locking tuners keep it in tune, and all hardware is finished in smoked black to suit the Smokeburst. A pair of McCarty III humbuckers run through a volume, a tone, and a 3-way toggle. That covers warm, vocal neck-pickup leads, rich blended middle-position tones, and a bridge pickup with plenty of bite for rock rhythm. Whether you’re a player who wants Private Stock woods in a guitar you’ll actually gig, a collector of korina and burl-topped instruments, or a McCarty fan ready for a Private Stock build, this one fits right in. This one (Serial #433318, Private Stock #12542) comes with a PRS Private Stock hardshell case. Order today from Brian’s Guitars, your authorized PRS dealer.
