The PRS SE Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition in Carpathian Grey takes its name and its color straight from the Land Rover Defender's rugged, modern palette — one of only four finishes John Mayer and PRS selected for this collaboration between two of his passions. Built on the SE Silver Sky's poplar body with a high-gloss polyurethane finish, this Defender Color Collection run pairs the cool, stone-grey finish with a black pickguard (a first for the Silver Sky line), a run-specific custom neck plate, and a matching custom PRS/Land Rover gig bag. It's a guitar designed to live in the space between everyday tool and object of inspiration, the same way the vehicle behind its name does.
The feel stays pure Silver Sky: a bolt-on maple neck in PRS's 635JM shape (53/64" at the 1/2 fret, 63/64" at the 12 1/2 fret), finished in fast satin for an effortless grip, paired with a rosewood fretboard, PRS's signature bird inlays, an 8.5" radius, and 22 frets. A 25.5" scale length and a 1.625" nut in synthetic bone round out a spec sheet built for comfortable, familiar playability, while a 2-point steel tremolo and vintage-style non-locking tuners in nickel/chrome deliver the smooth, classic vibrato action players expect from the model.
Electronics are a trio of 635JM "S" single-coils in the neck, middle, and bridge positions, voiced to Mayer's own specifications and wired through a simple one volume, two tone, 5-way blade selector setup that spans bright, glassy cleans to a punchier, more aggressive bridge tone.
