Paul Reed Smith Silver Sky Frost

The PRS Silver Sky in Frost (Serial #0434393) is John Mayer's signature model, built from a long collaboration between Mayer and Paul Reed Smith. They started with their favorite details from 1963 and 1964 single-coil guitars and refined them for a modern player. The alder body has a high-gloss nitro finish in Frost with a 3-ply white pickguard and nickel hardware. It weighs 7.36 lb.

The bolt-on maple neck has the 635JM carve (27/32" at the 1/2 fret, 31/32" at the 12 1/2 fret) in satin nitro. On rosewood-board Silver Skys like this one, PRS rounds the shoulders slightly for a fuller feel in the hand. The rosewood fretboard has small bird inlays, a vintage 7.25" radius, and 22 tall/narrow frets on a 25.5" scale, with a 1.656" bone nut. The reversed PRS headstock is designed to keep string lengths behind the nut consistent, which helps tuning stability. It carries vintage-style closed-back tuners with PRS's locking design. The PRS steel tremolo with bent saddles is set flush to the body so it only bends down in pitch, a setup PRS uses to increase body contact and acoustic resonance. A double-action truss rod adjusts from the front of the headstock, and a curved metal jack plate makes plugging in easy.

Three 635JM single-coils, with a reverse-polarity middle pickup, give you round, full tones with a musical top end that never gets harsh.
