This 2006 Gibson Custom 1961 ES-335 in Vintage Cherry is a Custom Shop recreation of the year many players consider the ES-335's peak — the point where the slim neck, the pearloid block inlays, and the fully-formed semi-hollow design all came together. The three-ply maple/poplar/maple construction with its solid center block is what makes the format work, giving you the woody bloom and air of a hollowbody without the feedback that comes with one, all finished in nitrocellulose lacquer in classic cherry with single-ply cream binding outlining the body. At 8.3 lbs., it sits right where a well-built 335 should — enough mass to sustain, light enough to hang comfortably through a long night. Condition is excellent, with little to no wear beyond some light swirling and scratches in the clearcoat.

The mahogany neck is carved to Gibson's 1960 SlimTaper profile (.805" at the 1st fret, .920" at the 12th fret), the fast, slim shape that made the early-sixties instruments so playable and still wins over players who find a fifties neck too much to hold. It's glued in with traditional set-neck construction, and the rosewood fretboard is bound in cream and inlaid with pearloid blocks — the defining 1961 appointment — running a 12" radius over 22 medium jumbo frets to a 1 11/16" nut. The 24.75" scale length keeps string tension relaxed for easy bending, the headstock carries the mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and crown inlay, and an ABR-1 Tune-o-matic bridge with a stopbar tailpiece, Gibson Deluxe tuners, and nickel hardware complete the period-correct build.

The pickups are where this particular guitar separates itself. It currently carries a pair of Wizz Premium Clone P.A.F. humbuckers, hand-wound boutique replicas built to chase the specific character of an original late-fifties PAF — clear, airy, and dynamic, with the low output and touch sensitivity that let chords stay defined and single notes bloom rather than compress.
