This 2001 Baker B1 '59 NAMM Limited is number 46 of 100, and is in near-mint condition. It has a flame maple top over a mahogany body, finished in Transparent Amber gloss nitrocellulose lacquer with cream binding. A 100th Anniversary NAMM medallion on the back of the headstock marks it as part of the limited run. The only wear is some light swirling and fine scratches in the clearcoat. It weighs 8.62 lb.
Gene Baker built guitars at the Gibson West Custom Shop under Roger Giffin before moving to the Fender Custom Shop. There he was named a Master Builder in 1995 and worked on Robben Ford's signature models. He laid out the B1 design during his Fender years and launched Baker Guitars USA to build it under his own name. The original Baker shop ran from 1999 to early 2003, so this guitar comes from the company's first era.
The mahogany set neck has a '59 C carve (.825" at the 1st fret, .925" at the 12th) and a gloss nitro finish. The cream-bound rosewood fretboard has mother-of-pearl trapezoid inlays, a 12" radius, and 22 medium jumbo frets on a 24.75" scale. Nut width is 1 11/16", with a nylon nut. Hardware includes a Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge, a stopbar tailpiece, and Grover Rotomatic tuners in nickel and chrome. The gloss black headstock carries a gold sparkle "Baker USA" decal.
