This Brian Monty Bluesmaster in Sunburst is a luthier-built single-cut that follows the classic recipe closely. A curly maple top sits over a chambered mahogany body, finished in gloss Sunburst with cream binding, and the chambering brings it in at just 7.1 lbs. — a real difference over a slab-body single-cut after a full set. This used example (Serial #0142) is in excellent condition, with a few light scratches in the clearcoat and no other notable wear.
The mahogany neck is carved to a '59 profile (.910" at the 1st fret, .985" at the 12th) — substantial without being a baseball bat, and set into the body for the sustain and warmth that construction is known for. The rosewood fretboard carries mother of pearl rounded block inlays and cream binding, with a 12" radius, 22 narrow frets, a 24.75" scale length, and a 1 11/16" synthetic bone nut. The narrow fretwire is the vintage-correct choice here, and it rewards a light touch in the way old single-cuts do. Hardware is straightforward and proven: a Tune-O-Matic bridge with retaining wire, a stopbar tailpiece, and Grover Rotomatic tuners for tuning stability that holds through bends.
Tom Short humbuckers sit in both positions, wound in the vintage tradition — clear, open, and dynamic, with midrange push in the bridge and a rounder, vocal voice in the neck. The layout is the familiar two volumes, two tones, and a 3-way selector, so cleaning up with the volume knob or dialing back the treble stays second nature. Whether you're a blues player after a lightweight single-cut you can wear all night, a session guitarist who wants a boutique-level instrument without the corporate badge, or a collector who follows independent builders, the Bluesmaster is worth a serious look. This Brian Monty Bluesmaster (Serial #0142) includes a non-original Gibson USA hardshell case. Order today from Brian's Guitars.
