This 2024 Collings D1A Traditional in Dark Sunburst is a pre-war style dreadnought built the way Collings crafts Traditional Series instruments: lighter, more responsive, and finished thin. An Adirondack spruce top over Honduran mahogany back and sides, with custom Traditional Series pre-war scalloped X bracing in spruce. The Vintage Satin nitrocellulose finish is applied thin to let the top move freely, and the Dark Sunburst is framed by tortoise binding with top purfling. This 2024 example is in excellent condition with light wear: some scratches and swirling in the darker areas of the finish, one ding on the treble-side upper bout, and a handful more along the treble-side waist. It comes with the original Collings hardshell case and Certificate of Authenticity.

The Honduran mahogany neck uses Collings' Traditional carve (.800" at the 1st fret, 1.005" at the 9th) in thin nitro, set into the body. An ebony fretboard with mother-of-pearl dot inlays sits over a 14-26" compound radius, with 20 medium frets, a 25 1/2" scale length, and a 1 11/16" bone nut. The compound radius rounds out under the chording hand and flattens toward the upper frets, which makes a dreadnought neck this size feel considerably easier than the dimensions suggest. The ebony headstock veneer carries a gold mother-of-pearl inlay. An ebony belly-style bridge with a bone saddle and Waverly tuners in nickel round it out — Waverlys being the open-gear standard on high-end flat-tops.

Adirondack over mahogany with pre-war scalloped bracing is a specific recipe, and it produces a specific sound: strong fundamental, quick attack, headroom that holds together when you dig in, and the dry midrange focus mahogany gives a dreadnought.
