The used 2023 Collings SoCo in Doghair Jet Black is a semi-hollow built around a European spruce top, which is not the standard recipe for this model and changes the voice considerably. Spruce pushes the SoCo toward vintage archtop territory — a mellower, slightly darker low end with more complexity through the upper mids and top end than you'd get from a maple-topped semi-hollow. Underneath is Honduran mahogany, finished in high gloss nitrocellulose lacquer with non-grained ivoroid binding, and the whole thing weighs 7.26 lbs. It's in near-mint condition, showing little to no wear aside from a few polish swirls in the finish and some light scratches on the pickguard, and it ships with its original Collings and Throbak certificates of authenticity.
The 15" lower bout keeps the SoCo comfortable and balanced without giving up note articulation, and the single-cutaway design adds mass and contact at the neck joint for solid low-end response and resonance you can feel through the body. The Honduran mahogany neck is a C carve (.860" at the 1st fret, 1.00" at the 12th fret) — a substantial early-'60s 335 kind of depth. It's joined with Collings' extra-long mortise and tenon set-neck construction. A rosewood fretboard with ivoroid binding and mother-of-pearl dots, 12" radius, 22 medium frets, a 24 7/8" scale length, and a 1 11/16" bone nut round out a neck that plays exactly as well as the build quality suggests. The headstock carries an ebony veneer with the mother-of-pearl Collings logo.
Electronics are a pair of Throbak PG-102 humbuckers, run through two volumes, two tones, and a 3-way toggle. That's a PAF-style voice with real dynamic range, and paired with the spruce top it gets you a warmer, woodier take on the classic semi-hollow sound. Kluson ABR-1 bridge with retaining wire, Kluson stop tailpiece, Gotoh tuners with the Collings logo, and nickel hardware throughout.
