Used 2018  Cutthroat Audio Down Brownie
Serial Number: DB1040
Condition: Mint condition, 2018 model. Amp shows little to no wear. Aftermarket Scumback M75 speaker. Comes with footswitch.

This 2018 Cutthroat Audio Down Brownie is a hand-built tribute to the 6G3 Brown Deluxe, the late-'50s Fender circuit that earned its "mini-Marshall" reputation and its following among players like Billy Gibbons in the pre-Eliminator years and Joe Bonamassa, who has called it a desert-island amp. Original 6G3s are expensive and almost never unmodified, which is the gap Cutthroat Audio set out to fill. This is no kit build: roughly 275 parts across about 100 discrete part numbers, sourced from more than a dozen vendors, with no component compromises. The used amp is in mint condition showing little to no wear, and it comes with the footswitch.

Twenty watts from a pair of 6V6GT power tubes, three 12AX7s in the preamp, and a GZ34 rectifier, driving a Scumback M75 speaker. Two channels, Brown and British, with volume and tone per channel and two 1/4" inputs each. The Brown channel is the original 6G3 voice untouched — labeled "Bright" on the vintage circuit but not actually bright in practice, starting to crunch above 3 or 4 on the volume and getting genuinely aggressive by 7 or 8. The British channel is where Cutthroat departed from the blueprint: the original "Normal" channel read flat, so it was re-voiced to a Marshall JMP50 1987-style circuit with the V1 cathode split and Marshall capacitor and resistor values used where appropriate. It sits tighter with slightly less gain than the Brown channel, in AC/DC and Paul Kossoff territory. Pull the British volume knob and the two channels jumper together for blending.

The bias-vary tremolo is the other standout, footswitchable and voiced the way bias-vary tremolo should be — throbbing and organic rather than the choppy on-off effect of a photocell circuit. Outputs include two 1/4" speaker jacks plus an external speaker connection. At 30 lbs. in a 20.5" x 17" x 9" cabinet, it's a genuinely portable combo that covers club stages and records beautifully. Whether you're a blues or classic rock player chasing brown-sound tone without hunting a vintage amp, a studio guitarist who wants two distinct voices from one 20-watt combo, or a tone chaser who appreciates a point-to-point boutique build, the Down Brownie earns its place. This used Cutthroat Audio Down Brownie (Serial #DB1040) includes its footswitch. Order today from Brian's Guitars.
