This 2019 Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition Roasted Pine Double Esquire Relic in '55 Desert Tan is a Custom Shop limited run built around two specs that are infrequently combined: a roasted pine body and a Double Esquire configuration. Pine was what Leo Fender was cutting bodies from at the very beginning, and roasting it drives out moisture for a lighter, livelier, more resonant slab than standard pine — this one comes in at 6.72 lbs. on a '51 Nocaster shape. The flash coat nitrocellulose lacquer in '55 Desert Tan is Relic'd by the Custom Shop, worn in the way a guitar that has been played for decades wears in, and finished off with an eggshell "Caballo" pickguard. This example is in mint condition with little to no non-original wear beyond the factory Relic treatment.

The riftsawn maple neck is carved to a 10/56 "V" profile (.940" at the 1st fret, .970" at the 12th fret), a substantial vintage V that fills the hand and gives your thumb something real to push against — the shape players chase when they want the guitar to feel like it came out of the mid-1950s. It bolts on with a traditional four-bolt joint for that snappy, articulate attack, and the riftsawn fretboard carries Micarta black dot inlays over a 7.25" to 9.5" compound radius, so vintage-feeling chording down low gives way to a flatter surface up high where bends need room. Twenty-one medium vintage frets, a 25.5" scale length, and a 1.650" bone nut round out the feel, with a Tele headstock wearing the 50–62 Tele Esquire decal, vintage Fender-logo tuners, and Relic'd nickel hardware throughout.

Where the Double Esquire departs from tradition is the electronics: an Esquire ordinarily runs one pickup, but this one pairs a hand-wound 50-51 Blackguard neck single-coil with a hand-wound Crushed Blackguard Tele bridge single-coil mounted to a reverse Nocaster bridge with three RSD saddles, wired to volume and tone with a 3-way blade selector. That's a wide vintage tonal spread — woody, round neck-pickup warmth on one end, cutting blackguard twang and bite on the other, and a mixed middle position that sits perfectly in a track.
