This 2021 Fender Custom Shop 1957 Stratocaster Heavy Relic in 2-Color Sunburst was Masterbuilt by Vincent Van Trigt during his tenure at the Fender Custom Shop — and with Van Trigt no longer building there, the number of guitars carrying his Masterbuilt signature is fixed for good. It remains in mint condition, showing little to no non-original wear beyond the aging that was built into it. Van Trigt started with a 2-piece ash body hand-sorted for lightweight, sprayed it in nitrocellulose lacquer, and took it down with a heavy relic treatment that reads like decades of honest road use, arriving at a wonderfully light 6.98 lbs. Relic'd nickel hardware and a single-ply parchment '54-'58 pickguard round out a guitar that looks like a well-traveled original and plays like the modern build it is.

The 5/4 quartersawn maple neck is carved to a Soft V profile (.910" at the 1st fret, .990" at the 12th fret) and finished in heavy-relic'd nitro that feels broken-in from the first chord, with a matching 5/4 quartersawn maple fretboard and black Micarta dot markers. Vintage specs carry through a 10" radius, 21 narrow-tall frets, a 25.5" scale, and a 1.650" bone nut, while bolt-on construction supplies the snap and immediate attack that make a '50s-spec Strat cut through a band. The '54-'60 headstock wears the correct Original Contour Body decal and a set of Fender Deluxe tuners, and a vintage 6-screw tremolo with bent steel saddles handles everything from shimmering vibrato to hard dive-and-return work.

Voicing comes courtesy of three hand-wound Josefina single-coils — neck, middle, and bridge — running into a familiar 1-volume, 2-tone, 5-way control layout that covers bell-like neck warmth, hollow quack in positions two and four, and a bright, cutting bridge with real bite.
