The Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue in Lemon Burst is the Custom Shop's most accurate take on the original, finished with the Murphy Lab's top-tier Ultra Heavy Aging. Gibson builds the 1959 Reissue from laser-scanned dimensions of real Bursts, down to chemically recreated plastics and color-matched sunburst shades. The Murphy Lab then takes it further — the aged nitrocellulose lacquer is checked, thinned, and worn by hand, and the nickel hardware is Heavy Aged to match, so it reads as a guitar that has been played hard for decades. A 2-piece figured maple top sits over a 1-piece lightweight mahogany body with single-ply Royalite binding, and it weighs 8.94 lbs. This used example (Serial #901714) is in mint condition, with no wear beyond the factory aging.

The solid mahogany neck is carved to a rounded '50s medium C profile (.875" at the 1st fret, .985" at the 12th) — a full handful that still moves fast. It's set with a long tenon and hide glue, the same joint spec as the originals, for maximum wood-to-wood contact and sustain. The Indian rosewood fretboard carries cellulose nitrate trapezoid inlays and single-ply Royalite binding, with a 12" radius, 22 historic medium-jumbo frets, a 24.75" scale length, and a 1.69" nylon nut. Hardware is period-correct throughout: an ABR-1 bridge, lightweight aluminum stop bar tailpiece, and Kluson single line, single ring tuners, all in Murphy Lab Heavy Aged nickel. A laminated cellulose acetate butyrate pickguard completes the look.

A pair of Custombucker humbuckers with Alnico 3 magnets handles the voice — clear, open, and touch-sensitive, with the midrange bark and bloom that define the Golden Era Les Paul sound. Controls follow the 1959 layout: two volumes, two tones, CTS 500K audio taper potentiometers, paper-in-oil capacitors, and a Switchcraft 3-way toggle. Roll the volume back and it cleans up without going dull; dig in and the bridge pickup snarls. Whether you're a blues player chasing that late-'50s voice, a working guitarist who wants one Les Paul that covers every session, or a collector looking for a Murphy Lab piece in the top aging tier, this one earns its spot. This 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue (Serial #901714) includes its aged brown/pink Lifton reissue 5-latch hardshell case, Certificate of Authenticity, and accessories.
