This 2025 Gibson Custom M2M 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue in Faded Cherry Tea Burst Light Aged (Serial #952254) is a used Historic reissue in mint condition. M2M stands for Made 2 Measure, Gibson Custom’s program for building guitars to dealer-chosen specs outside the regular catalog. The 1959 Les Paul Standard it recreates is one of the most valuable electric guitars ever made, and original ‘59 bursts trade at prices few players can reach. This one has a flame maple top over a mahogany body. The nitrocellulose lacquer finish was aged by the Murphy Lab, Gibson Custom’s aging shop named for Tom Murphy, who pioneered guitar aging. The Light Aged treatment adds subtle finish checking and gentle wear, so the guitar looks like a well-kept original. The body is bound in 1-ply Royalite. At 7.0 lb., it’s light for a Les Paul.

The mahogany neck has a ’50s Rounded Medium C carve (.880" at the 1st fret, .980" at the 12th) under the same Light Aged nitro. It’s set with a long tenon and a hide glue fit, the way the originals were built, for full contact between neck and body. The Indian rosewood fretboard has 1-ply Royalite binding, cellulose nitrate trapezoid inlays, a 12" radius, and 22 authentic medium-jumbo frets on a 24.75" scale. The nylon nut is 1 11/16" wide, a period-correct detail. The headstock carries a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and a “Les Paul Model” silkscreen. An ABR-1 bridge and a lightweight aluminum stopbar tailpiece anchor the strings, and Kluson single-line, single-ring tuners keep it in tune. The nickel hardware is aged by the Murphy Lab to match the finish. A laminated cellulose acetate butyrate pickguard completes the ‘59 look.

A pair of unpotted Custombucker Alnico 3 humbuckers handle the electronics. They’re Gibson Custom’s recreations of the original PAF. The Alnico 3 magnets give a softer, sweeter, more open voice than hotter modern humbuckers. Leaving them unpotted makes them more touch-sensitive, with an airy top end. The controls are 2 volumes, 2 tones, and a 3-way toggle. That covers warm, singing neck-pickup leads, glassy middle-position cleans, and a bridge pickup that growls when you push an amp.
