This 2025 Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue in Factory Burst (Serial #953537) is a Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged example in near-mint, used condition. The original 1959 Les Paul Standards are among the most collectible electric guitars ever made, and this Historic reissue follows that spec down to the details. A 2-piece figured maple top sits on a 1-piece lightweight mahogany body, bound in single-ply Royalite. The Factory Burst finish is nitrocellulose lacquer, aged by the Murphy Lab at its Ultra Light level, the lightest of its 4 aging treatments. The result looks like a ‘59 that has been well cared for, not beaten up. A laminated cellulose acetate butyrate pickguard completes the look, and the guitar weighs 8.62 lb.
The solid mahogany neck has an Authentic 1959 carve (.880" at the 1st fret, .980" at the 12th fret). It fills the hand more than a modern slim taper while staying slimmer than a ‘58-style rounded profile. The neck is set with a long tenon and a hide glue fit, the same joint method Gibson used in the ’50s. The tenon reaches deeper into the body, and hide glue cures hard for a tight neck-to-body connection. The Indian rosewood fretboard has a 12" radius, 22 historic medium-jumbo frets, single-ply Royalite binding, and cellulose nitrate trapezoid inlays, the same material used on the originals. Other specs include a 24.75" scale, a 1 11/16" nylon nut, and Murphy Lab aged nitro on the neck. The holly headstock veneer carries the “Les Paul Model” script and an inlaid Gibson logo. Hardware is nickel: an ABR-1 bridge, a lightweight aluminum stop bar, and Kluson single line, single ring tuners.
A pair of Custombucker Alnico III humbuckers handles the electronics. Alnico III is a softer magnet, giving a vintage-output, open voice with clear note separation. The layout is 2 volumes, 2 tones, and a 3-way selector, wired with CTS 500K audio taper pots and paper-in-oil capacitors. The tapers are smooth, so rolling back the volume cleans the tone up gradually instead of dropping off all at once. Whether you’re a blues player chasing late-’50s tone, a classic rock player who wants PAF-style bite, or a collector building a Historic lineup, this 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue delivers. It shows little to no non-original wear. This one (Serial #953537) ships with the original Gibson Custom Lifton Reissue hardshell case, Certificate of Authenticity, and accessories.
