This 2003 Gibson SG Standard in Vintage Cherry (Serial #03393684) is a USA-made SG built in Nashville. The mahogany body has the SG’s double-cutaway shape, with beveled edges and easy access all the way up the neck. It’s finished in gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, which thins and wears in with age in a way modern poly finishes don’t. Vintage Cherry is the classic SG color, and a 5-ply black pickguard sets it off. It weighs 7.08 lb., light and well balanced for a solid mahogany guitar.
The mahogany set neck has a SlimTaper profile (.825" at the 1st fret, .890" at the 12th fret). It’s fast and slim without feeling thin. The rosewood fretboard has cream binding, pearloid trapezoid inlays, a 12" radius, and 22 medium jumbo frets. Other specs include a 24.75" scale and a 1.6875" synthetic nut. The shorter scale lowers string tension, which makes bends easier and gives the SG its warm, thick attack. The neck joins the body at the 22nd fret, so the upper frets are wide open. A Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece anchor the strings. Gibson Deluxe tuners sit on the gloss headstock, and the hardware is nickel/chrome.
A Gibson 490R in the neck and a 490T in the bridge run through 2 volume and 2 tone controls, with a 3-way toggle. The 490R is warm and round for leads, and the 490T adds the midrange bite for rock rhythm. Together they cover the snarl and crunch the SG is known for. Whether you’re a hard rock player who wants the classic SG sound, a blues player who wants humbucker warmth in a light guitar, or a collector looking for an early-2000s Nashville SG, this SG Standard delivers. This used example is in very good condition. The clearcoat has some scratches and swirling, there’s some strap wear near the neck heel strap button, and the back of the neck has a few scuffs. The hardware shows light cloudiness, and the frets show some wear with plenty of life left. (Serial #03393684) It comes with an aftermarket hardshell case.
