This used Nash S-57 in Black is Bill Nash's take on a well-played 1957 Stratocaster, built by hand in his Olympia, Washington shop. The "Gilmour Vibe" name comes from the spec: black over a 1-ply black pickguard with a maple neck and white pickup covers, the combination David Gilmour made famous on the Black Strat. The ash body wears nitrocellulose lacquer with light aging, so the finish, hardware, and plastics have the dinged, checked, settled-in look of a guitar that's seen decades of stage time while the build itself is modern and dialed. At 6.68 lbs. it's light for a Strat, which shows up in both resonance and comfort over a long set. Because every Nash is aged by hand, no two come out the same. This example (Serial #85355) is in near-mint condition, with little to no wear beyond the factory aging.

The maple neck is carved to a C profile (.840" at the 1st fret, .955" at the 12th) with an aged nitro finish and bolted on with a 4-bolt joint for the snap and attack that construction gives. The maple fretboard carries clay dot inlays, with a 10" radius, 21 narrow tall frets, a 25.5" scale length, and a 1.625" Tusq nut. The 10" radius is a step flatter than a period-correct 7.25", so bending up high stays clean without fretting out, and the narrow tall wire keeps the vintage look while making the neck easier to bend on. Hardware follows suit: a vintage-style six-screw tremolo with bent saddles in relic nickel, and vintage-style tuners aged to match.

The pickup set is where this one gets its voice. Lollar Blonde single-coils sit in the neck and middle for bell-like clarity and the glassy quack in positions two and four, while the Lollar Nash Special in the bridge is wound hotter and fuller to cut without the ice-pick top end vintage bridge pickups are known for. A volume, two tones, and a 5-way blade selector keep it simple. Whether you're a blues or classic rock player after a real vintage-feeling Strat, a session guitarist who needs one instrument that covers ground, or a Gilmour fan chasing that black-on-black look and voice, the S-57 delivers it without a vintage price tag. This Nash S-57 (Serial #85355) includes its original Nash Alligator hardshell case. Order today from Brian's Guitars.
