The Used 2024 PRS Custom 24-08 in Fire Smokeburst is the guitar that built the company, wired for more ground. The Custom 24 platform dates to 1985 and hasn't needed much reinventing since: a carved maple top over a mahogany back, 24 frets, 25" scale, and a high-gloss nitro finish that in Fire Smokeburst runs from bright amber through deep smoked edges. The 24-08 keeps all of that and adds a switching system that pulls eight distinct pickup voices out of two humbuckers. At 7.84 lbs. it's a comfortable all-night weight. This one is in excellent condition, with light swirling and scratches in the darker areas of the finish, some scratching on the back and backplates, and a few dings along the bottom edges of the headstock consistent with time on a wallhanger.
The mahogany neck is cut to PRS's Pattern Thin carve (53/64" at the 1/2 fret, 57/64" at the 12 1/2 fret) with a high-gloss nitro finish and set-neck construction for sustain and clean access to the upper register. A rosewood fretboard carries the signature bird inlays, with a 10" radius, 24 frets of PRS standard fret wire, and a 1 11/16" PRS nut. The headstock wears a rosewood veneer with the inlaid signature. Hardware is nickel throughout: the PRS Patented Gen III tremolo, which stays in tune through hard use and returns dead-on, and Phase III locking tuners with wing buttons.
The electronics are what separate the 24-08 from a standard Custom 24. A pair of TCI humbuckers — Tuned Capacitance and Inductance, the same design language behind Paul's Guitar — deliver a full, vocal humbucking voice with real P90 and soapbar character in the mix. Two mini-toggle switches tap each pickup independently, and paired with the 5-way blade they open up eight pickup configurations, including a dual single-coil setting.
