This used 2019 PRS Private Stock McCarty 594 is a stand-out build from Paul Reed Smith's Private Stock department (PS #8423) built around an exotic wood combination: a figured walnut top over a swamp ash body, finished in high-gloss nitrocellulose with swamp ash binding and matching swamp ash backplates. The pairing is as functional as it is decorative — swamp ash brings airy resonance and a snappy midrange the 594 platform normally gets from mahogany, and the walnut top adds tightness and clarity on top of it. At 7.46 lbs. this Private Stock McCarty 594 hangs comfortably for a full set, and it's in near-mint condition, showing little to no wear aside from some light finish wear on the pickup covers.
The Private Stock appointments carry through the neck and headstock. Wenge is a dense, oily, stiff tonewood rarely offered even in Private Stock, and it lends a focused attack and pronounced midrange bite that suits this build perfectly. The ebony fretboard carries black mother-of-pearl birds with mother-of-pearl outlines across a 10" radius and 22 frets, on the McCarty 594's signature 24.594" scale length with a 1 11/16" bone nut. The headstock wears an ebony veneer with swamp ash binding, the black mother-of-pearl Private Stock eagle with mother-of-pearl outline, an ebony truss rod cover, and Paul Reed Smith's own hand-signed signature.
Hardware is period-correct for the platform and finished to match the dark aesthetic: a PRS two-piece vintage-style bridge and tailpiece, PRS Phase III locking tuners with ebony buttons, all in smoked black.
