This 2024 Paul Reed Smith S2 McCarty 594 in Fire Red (Serial #S2071533) is a USA-made PRS from the company’s Stevensville, Maryland factory. It’s built around the vintage-style specs of the Core McCarty 594 line. The model is named for Ted McCarty, the former Gibson president who mentored Paul Reed Smith, and for its 24.594" scale. The mahogany body has a maple top and a high-gloss nitro finish. Fire Red is a bold, solid color that stands out on stage. It weighs 7.6 lb.
The mahogany set neck has a Pattern Vintage carve (7/8" at the 1/2 fret, 63/64" at the 12 1/2 fret). It’s a full, rounded neck that fills the hand. The rosewood fretboard has white bird inlays, faux bone binding, a 10" radius, and 22 frets. Other specs include the 24.594" scale and a 1 11/16" nut. The slightly shorter scale lowers string tension for easier bends and a warm attack. A pair of PRS 58/15 LT “S” humbuckers run through 2 volume and 2 tone controls, with a 3-way toggle. Both tone knobs push/pull to split the coils.
