“It’s been a dream of mine for years to design a guitar that includes some of my favorite vintage specifications but with a modern spirit and aesthetic. After two years of study and refinement, the Silver Sky is my vision of what a reboot of the electric guitar should look and feel like.”
– John Mayer

This used 2025 PRS Silver Sky in Polar Blue (Serial #0401967) is the maple-fretboard version of John Mayer’s signature model. Mayer and Paul Reed Smith spent 2 years developing the Silver Sky, starting from what they loved about 1963 and 1964 single-coil guitars and modernizing the details. The alder body is finished in Polar Blue under a high-gloss nitro finish. A multi-ply white pickguard and nickel hardware complete the look. This one weighs 7.14 lb.

The bolt-on maple neck has the original 635JM carve (27/32" at the 1/2 fret, 31/32" at the 12 1/2 fret), the first Silver Sky neck shape. Mayer and PRS based it on measurements of vintage necks and on stage testing. It’s paired with a maple fretboard with small bird inlays, a 7.25" vintage radius, and 22 PRS Medium frets (.085" x .045"). The scale is 25.5", with a 1 41/64" bone nut. The Silver Sky uses an inverted version of PRS’s headstock shape, which fits Mayer’s playing and keeps string length behind the nut consistent for more stable tuning. Vintage-style closed-back tuners have PRS’s locking design. The PRS steel tremolo uses Gen III knife-edge screws and sits flat against the body, so it bends down only. That extra contact makes the guitar more resonant unplugged and improves the signal-to-noise ratio of the single coils. A double-action truss rod adjusts at the headstock.

Three PRS 635JM single coils give a full, rounded sound, and the high end stays sweet instead of brittle. A 5-way blade switch, 1 volume, and 2 tone knobs cover bell-like neck tones, funky in-between positions, and a bridge sound that cuts through a mix. A curved, molded metal jack plate and retooled knobs complete it. Whether you’re a blues player who wants vintage single-coil feel with a maple board, a worship or pop session player who needs sparkling cleans, or a Mayer fan looking for the original maple-neck Silver Sky, this one is ready to play. It’s in excellent condition, with only light swirling and scratching in the clearcoat and some light cloudiness on the hardware. This Silver Sky (Serial #0401967) comes with a PRS Premium Gig Bag.
