This used Santa Cruz 000 Mahogany in Teardrop Sunburst is an all-mahogany small-body flat-top from Santa Cruz Guitar Company, a small California shop building acoustics one at a time. Mahogany top, back, and sides trades the shimmer of a spruce-topped guitar for something drier and more focused — strong fundamental, quick note decay, and a midrange that sits well under a voice or in a dense arrangement. Cowboy rope binding and a matching cowboy rope rosette give it a period-correct look that suits the wood, all under nitrocellulose lacquer in a teardrop burst with a tortoise pickguard. At 3.7 lbs. it's featherlight, and scalloped Adirondack spruce bracing keeps the top loose and responsive. This example (Serial #6217) is in mint condition, with little to no wear beyond some light polish swirls in the gloss.
The mahogany neck is carved to a V profile (.835" at the 1st fret, .975" at the 9th) — a shape that gives the thumb a defined ridge to reference and suits fingerstyle and thumb-over playing alike — joined with traditional set-neck construction. The ebony fretboard runs a 13" radius over 18 medium frets to a 1.75" bone nut, a width that leaves real room between strings for fingerpicking, and it's dressed with Style 42 appointments you won't find on a production guitar. The 24.75" scale length keeps string tension relaxed and bends easy, which is part of why a 000 feels so effortless under the hand. Waverly open-gear tuners with ebony oval knobs, an ebony pyramid bridge with a bone saddle, and an ebony headstock veneer wearing the ivoroid Santa Cruz script logo complete a build where every component was chosen rather than sourced on price.
What it adds up to is a guitar built for players who listen closely. The 000 body has anchored fingerstyle and singer-songwriter playing for a century, and Santa Cruz's take — all mahogany, lightly built, scalloped bracing — responds to a light touch and rewards subtle dynamics instead of demanding you dig in. Whether you're a fingerstyle player looking for a small body with real note separation, a singer-songwriter who wants an acoustic that supports a vocal rather than competing with it, or a collector after a Santa Cruz in a spec that doesn't come up often, this one deserves a serious look. This Santa Cruz 000 Mahogany (Serial #6217) includes its original Santa Cruz hardshell case. Order today from Brian's Guitars, your authorized Santa Cruz dealer.
