Walrus Audio Lore Stereo Reverse Soundscape Generator MKII Green

The Walrus Audio Lore MKII Reverse Soundscape Generator is a stereo ambient pedal that runs reverse delay, reverse reverb, and pitch shifting in series. Each of its five modes pairs two effects and routes them into each other through separate feedback paths. As a result, the sound keeps changing while it decays instead of repeating the same trail. The Lore MKII runs on MDSP, the digital platform Walrus Audio designs in-house. The enclosure features artwork by Niall Grant.

Mode I sends reverse delay into reverse reverb. The X knob sets how reversed the delay trails are before they reach the reverb, and big minor chords sound especially good here. Mode II sends reverse delay into an octave-up reverb for a light, airy space. Regen adds shimmer to the decay, X sets the decay length, and this mode works well with fingerpicked parts. Mode III goes dark: octave-down feedback, heavy filtering, and harmonic distortion give you a thick, murky reverb that pairs well with fuzz or high gain. Mode IV sends reverse reverb into forward reverb. Regen controls an octave-up path, Feedback controls an octave-down path, and time stretching sets the size of the space. Set the mix fully wet and it turns your guitar into ambient pads and drones. Mode V runs two pitch delays that shift up and down against each other. At long delay times it acts like a sequencer, and at short times it acts like a harmonizer. X changes the order of the 4th, 5th, and octave intervals, and short staccato notes produce rhythmic patterns.

The Tweak button cycles through five settings, and the Tweak knob adjusts whichever one is selected. Width sets the stereo spread. Run mono in and stereo out with Width wide open and a single guitar fills the room. Mod Rate sets the LFO speed from 0.1 Hz to 5 Hz. Mod Shape selects a sine, square, or random LFO. Shift and Ramp control the Dive/Rise feature. Hold the tap tempo switch and the pedal’s clock rate drops or rises for as long as you hold it. Shift sets the target from 0.5x to 2x, and Ramp sets how long the move takes, from a near-instant 50 ms jump to a slow 5000 ms glide.

You can save three presets on the pedal (red, green, and blue), and the white live mode reads the knobs as they’re set. Another 127 presets are available over MIDI, and expression assignments save with each preset. MIDI clock sets delay time from 100 ms to 1000 ms in Modes I, II, III, and V, and drives the sample rate stretch in Mode IV. Every knob responds to MIDI CC, as do mode select, bypass, and tap. The expression jack can control any knob or work as an external tap. Connections include stereo 1/4" inputs and outputs, 1/8" TRS MIDI In and Thru (Type A), and USB-C for firmware updates. Bypass is buffered. The Lore ships in Trails mode, so trails fade out naturally when you turn it off, and you can switch to No Trails for a hard cutoff. The enclosure measures 4.70" x 3.93" x 2.30" including knobs. It runs on 9V DC, center negative, at 300mA minimum. The power supply is sold separately, and an isolated supply is recommended. Walrus Audio covers it with a Limited Lifetime Warranty. Whether you’re an ambient guitarist building pads, a post-rock player chasing big swells, or a sound designer who wants a stereo pitch and reverse lab on the pedalboard, the Lore MKII has plenty to explore.
